Devlog #3: Finishing Prototype

Hello everyone and welcome to the third part of our devlog. This week we used to finish up our prototype so we can go straight to the production of our game. We finished the main mechanics and researched everything we need. This means we will go into the production phase soon. I will list some of the stuff we changed this week in our prototype.

Design

  •  We already started thinking about the design of the car mods and how they will look in game. We made some quick meshes for each mod so we could test if they would be readable or not. These are only placeholders for the moment which means they will probably still change as soon as we started production.

  • We also made a new map which compared to the other map has less walls and a bit more open space. After testing the previous map we noticed we created a spot were most players always gathered which is not the case on the new map. On this map we also made some props that are related to the theme we are going for which is a kids room.

  • Next to that we also figured out how to work with decals. This will be usefull for the later stages of production to make everything feel more unique without having to make a unique texture for every prop.

Mechanics

  • Cars have different spawn points
  • Cars are a bit wider and bigger
  • Collision and car movement has been improved
  • Every player gets there own random color (for now you will be able to chose your color later)
  • The battering ram is now fully working. You can drive over the item pick up location and the ram will automatically attach to your car for 4 seconds.
  • The rate of which your multiplier increases got reduced. This means you it will take longer to knock someone of the map, but you will also be able to survive longer. We changed this because after testing we felt this was more enjoyable then before
  • The turning rate got changed for a more enjoyable experience
  • Camera has been improved and can zoom in/out now

For next week

Things that still need to be changed:

  • Camera movement. Sometimes the camera moves too far and players can get out of the field of view
  • Controller vibration. At the moment there is controller vibration, but not always correctly applied (it is disabled for this week's build).

We will be going into the production phase next week it will take a while before these are fixes are implemented since we will start and make the game from scratch again. Next week we will give an update on how the production is going and show some of the stuff we are working on.
